Trek to Zanskar over Shingo La (17 Nights / 18 Days)
Delhi – Chandigarh-Manali
Fly to Chandigarh or board Shatabadi Express train from New Delhi to Chandigarh. On arrival at Chandigarh airport our driver will meet you and drive to Manali(9 hours drive). Overnight stay in Hotel in Manali.
Rest day for acclimatization. Afternoon drive to Solang valley from where you go for 3 hours easy acclimatization walk from Solang to old Manali. Overnight in Hotel in Manali.
Manali – Jispa 7 Hours drive
3 hours beautiful uphill drive takes us to the top of Rohtang pass(3980m). Once you crossing Rohtang Pass you will notice a dramatic change in the landscape-the green kullu valley is suddenly replaced by dry dessert of Lahul valley. Arrive Jispa and check in guest House.
Jispa
Rest day for acclimatization. Walk inside the villages. Overnight stay in Guest House.
After a short drive from Jispa to Darch we start our trek to Palmo. We come across Chikka and Rarig villages on the way. Camp at Palmo for overnight stay.
Palmo – Zanskar Sumdo (3750 M) 6 hours walk
We cross small streams on the way to reach Zanskar Sumdo. Late afternoon the streams get flooded so we have to arrive camp in time.
Zanskar Sumdo to Chumik Nakpo(4150M) 5/6 Hours walk
Leaving Zanskar Sumdo we cross over a hanging bridge to enter into Zanskar valley. Chumik Nakpo is the base of Shingo la pass.
Chumik Nakpo – Shingo La Pass (5090m) -Lakhong (4400 M)
Leave after early breakfast. Steep ascent for three to four hours takes us to top of Shingola Pass. We have beautiful views of distant Himalayan peaks from the pass. Another three hours to descend down to camp at Lakong.
Lakhong – Kargiyak (3900 M) 5/6 hours walk
The trek goes beneath the face of gomborangoo peak. Karigiak is the first village enroute and the most remote and highest village of Zanskar valley. Night in tents near the village.
We cross three/four small villages of Zanskar to reach Purne, a small village with three to four houses. Night stay in tents near Purne village.
This day we do a side tour of Phuktal monastery. A small trail along Tsarp river with chortens and religious banners leads us to Phuktal gompa. When viewed from a distance the monastery look like a beehive on top of a hill. Visit the monastery and talk to the monks. Later return back to Purne for night stay in tents.
Purne – Pipul (3500m) 6 hours walk
Five to six hours of walk takes us to Pipul where we camp for night stay.
Pipul – Raru (3400m) 5 hours walk
It is almost leveled walk passing through several other Zanskari villages to reach Raru.
Raru – Padum
Mune Gompa and Bardan gompa are the two Buddhist monasteries we visit this day. We reach Padum, the capital of Zanskar in the afternoon. Night stay in camp or guest house. Trek Ends. Padum is inhabited by Muslims as well as Buddhist people and is linked by road to Leh. Check in guest house in Padum.
Padum – Kargil 9 Hours drive
We drive through the zanskar valley to Kargil where we spend our night in a hotel to break the long journey to Leh.
Kargil – Leh 7 hours drive
Beautiful drive through the cold dessert of ladakh. Enroute we can visit ancient Lamayuru monastery. Arrive Leh and Check in Hotel.
Leh
After breakfast visit Hemis and Thiksey monasteries in Leh. Afternoon walking tour of Leh palace and Shanti Stupa.
Morning transfer to airort for flight to Delhi. End of Tour
